LTD2 vs. Daking Fet II

hey guys,

my first post in the mastering forum....

Has anybody tried both of these comps?

Which one would be the more versatile one for a wide variety of mastering applications?

greetings

The Daking is cleaner ... the LTD2 is always a strong color form the transformers and path. So which is more versatile? the Daking is far more versatile. It wasn't designed as a mastering compressor, not really geared for that, although it can be done. Try them out and you'll hear the LTD2 right away.

I first got on to the LTD-2s as the result of reviewing a pair of the standard version, which were definitely thick, rich, creamy and coloured as lucey has said. I then bought a pair of the mastering version and found them very much less coloured than my memory of the others - so much so that the subtle enhancement works on much of what I do, often helping the lower mid area and adding a minor sheen which I like and my customers seem to enjoy too. When compression is bypassed the Class A path is still in circuit, so sometimes I'm not using the LTD-2s as compressors, just as a 'niceness' box.

I don't know why I'm getting this difference. There are a number of possibilities: perhaps it's a function of the mastering version, or a happy accident, or maybe I'm just plain wrong about there being a difference at all ! I'm happy to say I don't especially care, and what I have works for me.

Don't know the Daking, I'm afraid.

I searched some opinions about LTD2 (mastering pair) - and wondering what will better suit as a mastering/stereo mix compressor - a pair of these of stereo Variable-Mu type compressor?

Having both the LTD-2s and a Vari-Mu compressor (modded Manley).......I'd get a Vari-Mu compressor compressor first......

The Chandlers are great augmentation boxes and represent a great option if you have other options in your rack.....the tone they impart really work for thinnish rock mixes.....

Another thread from the grave, but I'm glad to report the LTDs are still doing it for me and remain my only analogue compression source. They're so general-purpose I'm intrigued and would like one day to see them measured against other versions to see if there really is a difference with my particular units.

I often think about getting another compressor (and we all know there are some fine contenders out there) but the longer I do this the less compression I use, so the jury's still out. As has been said before 'sometimes the best compressor is an EQ', and I'm certainly seeing the truth of that nowadays.
