Thread Starter | Viewing ISRC codes on cds Hi there, Could anyone recommend some software that would read ISRC codes from CDs. It would save someone I know a lot of trouble! I presume radio stations must use it all the time. Cheers. ![]() |

| ISRC codes That's interesting. I never realised that Exact Audio Copy could read ISRC codes. I use CD Studio which is an old Mac programme by Gallery Software. I'm not sure if there is a version for OSX. |

| On a Mac you can read out the ISRC codes with the Terminal app. Enter "drutil subchannel | grep ISRC", hit "return" and ISRC content will show up. Be patient - it takes a while because the whole subchannel data will be scanned. Andreas |

| That terminal function gives a version of the isrc but it doesn't give it in the same format as how the code was entered, in my experience. |

| Lives for gear | Eh? You enter 5 letters and 7 digits in your mastering DAW when assigning codes, the terminal function reads off and prints out (nicely formatted) 5 letter and 7 digits, specified track for track. What's wrong with the format in your opinion? Thor |

| Good question. On Mac OS9 you can use Astarte CD Copy (probably obsolete but once popular for making playstation1 copies) and NeroMax (more obscure & obsolte Mac version of the famous pc software) CD copy is considerably faster than NeroMax. But be sure to refresh it's cache files if you're testing copies. Peter. |

Thread Starter | Thanks folks - this is perfect. I've recommended Exactaudiocopy to the record company but I'll give the terminal app a go myself. I have Waveburner. I must look to see if it will pick up codes on import cd. Just tried the Terminal app and it works a treat! Cheers! |

Track 1 ISRC: 104015200181 (from block 55) Track 2 ISRC: 104015200181 (from block 26) Track 3 ISRC: 104015200181 (from block 42) Track 4 ISRC: not present I also did it with another album and got these results Track 1 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 4) Track 2 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 68) Track 3 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 0) Track 4 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 18) Track 5 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 31) Track 6 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 8) Track 7 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 15) Track 8 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 54) Track 9 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 34) Track 10 ISRC: 0@40<1600003 (from block 2) I tried the last Prodigy album and got similar results to the Gwen Stefani single. They don't look like ISRC codes to me... Any ideas?

| Lives for gear | Hmm, Did you 'adjust' the results before posting? ISRC's are 2 letter country codes + 3 letter registrant (publisher) code + 2 digit year + 5 digit designation (unique identifier) code. See: http://www.ifpi.org/content/section_...html#Heading28 for more info. Your examples have no letters, and example 2 looks like it contains illeagle characters. Plus all codes are identical! tutt I have seen cases where (one time a major label) didn't want the ISRC data where it's suposed to be, but instead have an in-house system that they use in it's place. Still, I don't know of any mastering app that will allow you to burn invalid ISRC data (which is maybe why said internal systems still follow - mostly - the same format of 5 letters + 7 numbers). Is this a CD, or something 'CD compatible' (like some copy protected discs)? Is it possible that there is invalid data and drutil is doing it's best to show it to you? I haven't seen that kind of result, usually I get either a valid code or 'not present'. Maybe someone who knows more about what this might be will chime in. Cheers, Thor Quote:

| On a Mac, use Toast Titanium. It's very simple. Insert Disc into the drive assigned as the designated burn drive. Under the "Recorder" menu, select Disc Info. All ISRC info, if available, will be displayed. I've never been able to reliably use the drutil method. It either takes forever or give me some weird numbers. Toast Titanium always works for me. |

Easier than the Terminal "drutil" routine, & nearly all Mac audio geeks have Toast. JT

I've seen that happen, in my studio last week. Its because the Cd burner/player doesent support that function. I put the Cd in my cheap LG cd burner and it came out exactly like that, I then out the the same Cd in my Plextor 755 and with the same software it came out just right. As for software dont forget Tau Analyzer. Its good.
