Thread Starter | Hi, I am mastering speech audio for use in a bluetooth headset application, and want a very small dynamic range in order to overcome the high noise floor of the end user environment. Which is the best way to accomplish this? Using RMS Normalizing, or regular compression? I am using Sony Sound Forge 8 (Pro version). The raw audio is 16bit, 96khz. Thanks! |

| my understanding is that rms normalizing is a poor mans limiter. what you want to do is use one or two compressors lightly and finish with a peak limiter, for what sounds like a quick and dirty solution. that would be potentially dangerous information for a novice but a place to start. don't forget de-essing if needed and check what ithe compression does to breaths between pauses. btw, haven't seen anyone record at 16 bit for years, any reason why? |
