| Monitor for small project studio for tracking/mixing/basic mastering--does it exist?
Hey folks!!! New slut-ite here. Found this place from Bob Katz's awesome book and site. I'll make this as brief as possible---I'm have a small project studio that I use for songwriting and composing. It is in a cement basement, untreated, with a rather low wooden ceiling--and I'm set up in the middle at least 5-8 feet from any of the walls(kinda Daniel Lanois control room/tracking area setup). Right now I'm doin my own stuff---but would like to eventually do some mixing/basic mastering for other folks. Question---I just picked up some Yamaha Hs80m's and they sound pretty nice. Now remember---due to monetary constraints at the moment--I have to use the same monitors for Mixing/ tracking and basic mastering(ie: good enough to burn my own cd's MP3s with the usual SOFTWARE mastering tools----dont worry--I save unmolested 24 bit K-20 or K-14 mixes for real mastering). The Hs80m's seem to fit the bill----but would I be better off with the JBL 4300 series for an all in one monitor until I can purchase some real mastering level speakers in addition to the tracking/mixing monitors and get into a decent treated area.?? Thanx for any replies. (not a fan of the Mackie 824's by the way--listened to both and much prefered the JBL's).
