Modification (For Bob Katz)

Thanks, Bob.
Just got a OCL-2 to use with my Weiss DS1. I was wondering about the modification you did to your OCL-2: is this something that I could get done for my unit? If so, could you please tell me more about it (pros, cons, price, waiting time etc..)?

Thanks agian for your time, Bob.

I am curious why your asking the question? Why did you buy the OLC-2 and what if anything are you not happy about with it? It is suppose to be an amazing unit. What are your needs in your studio and is this unit meeting your expectations? Not hey I heard about a mod for this thing and therefore I want it too. Maybe that's not how your thinking but that is the impression you give.

In regards to the mod, Bob stated on another thread that it adds some color to this very clean compressor. However many buy the OCL-2 because it's clean. I think Bob got it to give him more flexibility. But I will let him answer for himeself.

I could do it but I don't have the time. Greg, the designer, can do it faster and neater than I can. It's just the addition of a pot and the change of a pot plus a resistor (per channel). The hardest part is finding a multiturn 250K pot. It's not expensive. The downside is you lose the presets because that's where we put the second pot but actually he set it so the preset switch does contain the most "popular" preset.

Exactly. Just more versatility. The mod extends the OCL-2's color range. I discussed this with the designer and we put the mod in even before I received it.

Hi,
I´ve just got my unit, in fact the first one down here in Brazil. I am wondering:which is this most popular preset?

"so the preset switch does contain the most "popular" preset.
Bob Katz

Thanks

I don't use any of them. I think the last one is the "popular" one... medium attack/fast release...

Thanks, Bob. I'll talk to Greg about it. I just got it and want to have an option open for more sounds. It doesn't seems that I'll be using the presets that much anyways. I only have 2 compressors and the HEDD to give some other textures.

I'm very happy with it, I love that it's a very transparent unit but, again, I only own the OCL2 and the Weiss and an option for more variety of sounds wouldn't hurt. I understand that it doesn't loose the transparency if that's what you need but it could add some "grunch" if you want to.

Thanks!
