I want to expand my mic collection with a new mic. I'm thinking of buying something that could work for sfx recordings in a studio (mostly studios anyway) setting. Any ideas on a multi-purpose sfx mic? I've an Sm7b and a 414 in my home studio at the moment. I've noticed EV has one called RE200. Looks interesting. |

Probably not what you're looking for but, if you want something different, perhaps check out the copperphone. Otherwise, maybe a ribbon mic would be a nice addition; or one of those clip-on lapel mics. I don't think you really need a specific mic for sound effects - just experiment.

You know, a ribbon just might be it. The copperphone's super cool also. Would be perfect for phone-style radio stuff, like fake call-ins. I should have one of those, too. Aren't they actually made&sold by a 'slut??
