ADK VIENNA vs. Studio Projects C1 I've pretty much narrowed my choices for a new vocal mic down to these two. Anyone have any good/bad feedback about either one?

Hi do you mean the Mk1 or Mk2 version of the Studio Projects C1? I'm also interested in this mic. I have the SP B1 mk1 and this mic is fantastic for the money!

I have them both, and you need them both. They have a totally different sound. The C1 is a great female vocal and nylon string guitar mic. The Vienna (ver 1) is brilliant on steel string acoustic guitars and saxes. Like an AKG 414, whereas the C1 falls into the U87 type of sound. They are both inexpensive, so getting them shouldn't set you back a whole lot.

Mk2, but after doing some more research I think I may get the C3, just cause for a little less that $100 more you get switchable patterns.

FWIW, I work in a studio where they have both of these and some C3's .. and I'll declare my bias up front by adding that subsequent to that, I bought a Vienna for myself. I don't like the C1. To put it another way, if you like the way it sounds, it's fine. But once you start trying to "work" the sound with a bit of EQ etc., it falls apart for me. The top end in particular gets spitty and brittle easily. The Vienna on the other hand, is a great all-round mic in the 414 mould. Open and lighter than the 87 model. If you wanted to get both, I'd look at an ADK Hamburg before any SP mics. But that's just me .. B

| I have 3 C1's, and I love that mic. My favorite nylon string guitar mic. Also, a great female vocal mic. However, I hate the C3. Alan Hyatt tells me they are similar, but not to my ears. I also have the Studio Projects LSD, which is two C1's mounted on one capsule. Brilliant for overheads, acoustic piano, and especially stereo micing of a nylon string guitar. Goodbye phasing problems, hello glorious sound!
