How do you Meek 3q guys like to track your vocals?

Im still learning my Meek 3q. Mainly, tracking in with compression.

Im using a condensor mic right now. I noticed when I used my Audix I5, the female's voice was too nasaly.

I currently have the attack set very slow, and the release in the middle, with the compressor set to around 5. Most compressors I use for vocals going in, I set the attack for a rather fast setting. I was informed that I shouldnt do this for the 3Q. The reason I ask instead of experiment more is because my Eureka I was using is not here, and i am in the middle of making a record. So i can't experiement as much as I would like....yet!

also, I have noticed the post volume gain is a nicer sounding boost then the pre. Any experiences would be great..so share if you want please.

I really love my 3Q but I rarely use the compressor.

I really want to use the compressor though. I need it for the vocals, and would like to really get a good sound with it. I love the opto on vocals, but I feel like im not quite dialing it in right yet.

i haven't tracked vox with the three.

but my preferred setting is with the attack at 10 o clock, release as fast as it will go, then slooowwwly wind on compression to between 3 and 4 on the dial YMMV.

the preamp and compressor section are fairly inter-dependent. i'd flick the comp out, p*iss about with the pre til you get a good sound then work from there.

Cool..about how much gain reduction do you get with that setting? One thing I noticed is I got no gain reduction when i was using the comp before, and I think my attack was just way too slow.

i never pay too much attention to that. i just play with it until it sounds good.

you might want to check your input on the back of the unit. the comp is pretty savage when you hit it hard enough. i've set my switch to -10db b/c i was packing way too much gain into the remaining stages.

get the preamp balance right first and you should be away.

I sold my 3q not long after I got it because the compressor never worked for me. I was listening to something today that I had tracked with it (about 2 years ago) and I have to say the pre was nice on acoustic. Every time I used the compressor though it would pop, and I got advice from Alan Hyatt on this board about setting it and it still didn't work for me, kept popping. The EQ was pretty fun on this though if I remember correctly, as long as you didn't go too crazy.

To be fair, I have learned a lot about setting a compressor as of late, but as I said, I could never get it to work for me at the time. Maybe someone else will have more luck.
