advice for the next step in the album I'm recording

I'm thinking I will be finished with tracking by the end of the year for the album that I'm recording. 11 songs. Just want to ask any advice to the next step...I will probably want the album to get mixed further into an analog board. Obviously along the way of tracking I have been mixing to get it to sound right to me...So I'm looking for someone to pretty much mix it through a nice desk or whatever gear they have and maybe even add on a couple more layers. But of course, I'm also looking for someone with experience who knows where I'm coming from musically, which to this date has been impossible to find. Every "producer" I have been with, I have not been happy with the mixes, and so I have been recording it all by myself through my protools rig. THe people I would like to mix it I'm sure are ridiculously expensive and out of my range like John Leckie (stone roses, Ride) and Dave Sardy (Oasis, The Thriils)...

Just let me know of any advice you could give me in advance...Thank you

Maybe just mix it yourself, hire a studio with a board you like and run it all through unity gain.

Bounce and see what happens?

It's sounding like you're producing this already anyway. You COULD just contact those guys and maybe they'll do some semi-pro bono work?

Besides the obvious monetary considerations and the availability (or lack there of) of the 'big names' you've mentioned, I would ask myself whether your own work is really in the same league (yet) that these guys are in?

I had a similar experience when I first was looking for a mastering engineer. I contacted some 'names' whose work I've admired and after recovering from the shock of learning their rates I also realized that I've got a long way to go before I would even benefit from a 'Top 5' mastering guy, even when hypothetically ignoring the charges.

What happened eventually over the next few years was that I found 2 excellent mastering guys that had tons of credits and were extremely helpful and quite affordable.

I really think its the same deal with your project. If you look around (outside of the Billboard Top 10) and check out records you like and that fit your stylistic direction, I'm sure that you'll find somebody who will happily mix your record for a reasonable charge.

I'll take a stab at it

I've listened to a lot of Stone Roses and Oasis. I believe maybe I can help. If you like what I do to your mix then pay me. I'm cheap. PM me

Dave Sardy and John Leckie have never had an American Billboard top 10 and I'm pretty certain never will...a couple top 40's...Sure...But I may not be fully realizing your use of hyperbole in your "top 10" example...

Being in the "same league" as those bands, is something I'm not worried about. I'm very certain where "I'm at"

How did you go about finding the contact info for the guys you worked with...I can get names, but not sure where to go from there...

A lot of real names hang out at PSW.

Fletcher is an awesome guy and he might be able to help you over there.

Googling them will help too.
