First time recording a band

Hi there,

I'm going to record a band in their rehersal room next month, and I'd like to pick your brains as I usually record one track at a time in my little home studio.

The band can play (you can check them at www.rsjf.nl ) I haven't seen the room yet. Going to check that out this Sunday. I'm expecting a fairly untreated room.

What they want to do is track the drums, bass, guitar and keys live and do the horns later.

I only have 8 A/D channels in my Tascam 1082. I don't want to use the tascam' s preamps and I have a GT Brick, 2x SCA A12 and 2x N72. I will be renting a Tubetech MP-1A.

I was thinking of the following set up:

Drums (recorderman setup + kick & snare to add if needed)

Kick: AKGD12E into MP-1A (although I'm thinking of using a rode K2 here)
Snare: Shure 515 into MP-1A
OH L: Neumann KM84 into SCA A12
OH R: Neumann KM84 into SCA A12

Bass DI: GT Brick (delayed to match the miced signal)
Bass cab (Hartke amp I think): Beyer M88 into SCA N72

Guitar: Koch amp w Brunotti cab: Senn MD421 (old one) into SCA N72

Keys: recording the line out as a guide
I will be recording the midi data of the keys to reamp later (running out of pres and A/D here)

Does this look OK to you? What about using the K2 for kick instaed of the D12?
I will be sitting in the same room as the band so decent monitoring will be hard.

Sorry for the long post

Maybe not the K2, unless you want a pseudo-phil collins sound.

And will the K2 handle those SPL?

I say do what you're doing, keep those for scratch tracks and then have the band relayer themselves later.

Of course, if they want a live to two sound, you're right on the money
