pro-tools issue

quick software question guys....maybe someone has run into a similar problem as i'm having no luck fixing it...

on a few of my projects that i've been working on, i've run across this problem.

instead of jumping back to the starting position after playback, it remains in the same spot...which is completely grief...

aside from this, when i have something highlighted, play it back, and then stop, it unhighlights....which is also killer....because i am highlighting to see if i have exactly what i want selected...

i've dicked around with options all the live long day and found no recourse...

anyone?

hit N if command key focus is on (the a...z box at the top left of the screen next to the tab to transient, etc and underneath where you select the trimmer, grabber, etc). HIt apple-N if it's not turned on.

This is toggling the preference of whether to the cursor stops where you stop or whether it goes back to where you started.

You can also look under Preferences and find the check box there. Apple-N does it without having to go into preferences.

It has it's uses.

listening back to a take to see if there's anything wrong. this way it's easy to keep your place/start listening from the same point.

shift+/ toggles the command that alows time line and edit selection to be the same or frees the edits selection from the timeline. this is handy if you want to edit while listening back to the track without it stoping everytime you select a region.

Oh. I guess I should start actually reading the posts.

I didn't know there was a quick key for the "link timetime whatever" thingy.
I find that thing equally useless, though.

Why would it stop when you select a region?

sorry that not exactly what i ment. if link timeline and edit selection is on your playback curser is set to what ever your last selection was. it also dictates a stop point to be the end of the selection, and of course your loop play back. if timeline insertion folows playback is enabled it overides the selection and place the the playback curser wherever you stopped. of course you can always use pre and post roll to give you some runway if you want to listen through edits quickly with the link timeline and edit selection enabled. sorry for the confusion.
