Hi guys,
I run a little mobile recording setup (powerbook/002).
Most of the stuff I do does not require more than 8 ins, and I'm able to use some nice pres and half decent mics on these. However in the future I'm gonig to be working with a larger ensemble in a small room, and was thinking of expanding to 16 tracks via lightpipe. Mainly for drums. While I am happy to usually stick 4 mics on a kit k/s/oh l+r a lot of the time, for this project I would like some more control when it comes to the mix and be able to include some "weird" mics a la tchad blake w/ mechanical filters.
While I know the behringer stuff is not great, I figure I'll be able to upgrade it in a year or so to something nicer. I would basically like to know if anyone would agree with me and say that the ada8000 looks really convenient for my purposes?

I have one.
It doesn't add anything to my recordings, thats for sure.
I only use it when I have to. IE on a particularly large drum set.
However I have had it for 2 years now, and I haven't had any problems with it.
For the price you can't really beat it I suppose. Although an octopre le wouldn't be too much more used. I'd check that out.

I have one and I use it for channels that doesn't have to sound good like drum triggers and stuff. I one time recorded the same signal through one ADA8000 and one Mackie Onyx 800R and compared the result. The Behringer sounded really dull and totally lacked the high end and punch that the Mackie had. On the other hand, you get five units of ADA8000 for the price of one Mackie 800R.

| ADA8000
The ADA8000's are still availble (well in the UK they are) I have recently brought one to expand a my system - i know that they aren't the best quaity but for the money they do the job more than fine - havent had a proper testing session compairing it to other preamps, but as I say - brilliant for the money!

i don't know if the beringher "stigma" would be worth the low cost of the unit, especially for its performance. I don't doubt that some people will see the unit and make judgements. Not really fair, but highly likely

RME Octamic D! Yes, four times the price but ten times the sound. Especially on drums.

| Digi 002 Vs. Behringer ADA8000
*****Any ADA8000 made before December 2005 is crap*****
Hello all
Today I tested ADA8000's wordclock up against a digi002's wordclock.
This particular ADA8000 was made after DEC 05'
The initial tests were performed at 16bit 44.1, CD quality sound was used
Anyway the tests were very interesting. The ada8000's clock appeared to be much tighter and free of jitter, with a much greater sense of space/stereo image. The 002's internal clock compared to the ada8000's is horrible and should be avoided at all costs it lacks the separation and clarity that the ADA8000 has.
A stable clock source is a very important thing in any studio and sometimes in smaller project studios is overlooked quite often!
The ADA 8000 is not the best but it holds its own for the price$

When did the 002 started to have wordclock? You mean you compared the two internal clocks on their own. Word Clock comes into play when you link machines via a dedicated PLL circuit and BNC connection, and the 002 hasn't got one. It can only be clocked via ADAT or SPdif. Anyway...could you provide some more infos about the setup used to do the comparision? Just to have a clear idea. I have a Digi002R, and as much as it's not a top quality piece of gear it's not that bad at all. I clock it and use it with an RME ADI8 DS which surely improved the overall sound, but I'm just curious to know if my money were well spent on the RME or not.
Thanx
L.G.

I have one, I don't use the mic preamps ie: i never boost mic level with it...
When I plug in a good pre it passes through all the frequencies and the full low frequencies are intact unlike other cheap preamps . It's hard to not use the word preamp even when using line inputs because the gain knob is always engaged.

I bought one after all the hype, and I was really unimpressed. It's not the worst converter ever, but the limit of 48k and the so-so sound don't make for a good combo. If it could have done 96k then I would have kept it.

Another vote for the RME Octamic D (it has to be the 'D' model which includes the ADAT). I use mine with my 003R, and let the RME be master clock through the ADAT cable. It is definitely worth the extra & - don't mess around with so-so, less than the 002R quality preamps if you can avoid it.

i've had 2 for several years now. they perform well for the price. worth every penny.
i'm currently looking to pay signifiantly more per channel to upgrade my signal paths.

I have one in my mobile rig for the odd occasion when I run out of nice inputs Havn't used it that much but have had it for around 4 years and it has always worked without problems. Soundwise you would not want to use it on important or quiet sources but it really is OK - I think I paid £80 pounds used for mine so can't really complain!

| Is the Behringer ADA 8000 Supplied with TOSlink Cables?
I was goign to order one tonight mailorder cause there are none to buy around central london. and I just realised, I may need to buy TOSlink cables as well? or not?
Does it Ship with a pari of Toslink cables?
I want to run it into my Hammerfall Multiface to get an extra 8/8 IO
also the outputs are bloody XLR? whats up with that?. I will also need a bunch of XLR to Jack cables to get it into my Patchbays.

best price on these at the moment is at a uk site called why buy new, b stock boxed but perfect condition for 124.99 including next day shipping.
I don't know if I'm allowed to post direct link here so pm me if you can't find the site.
I got one to use for drum triggers used it live as well and it's been rocksolid even if it's not the best converter.
