Tivoli offers a package called the RadioWorks, which includes the stereo Model Two radio, a CD player, and a sub. I'm thinking of getting one as a listening system for my small cabin, and I'm just wondering how it might work as an all-around monitoring system. A search turned up several threads mentioning Tivoli radios for checking mixes in mono, but I didn't find much about these bigger Tivoli packages (two speakers + sub). Anyone tried to mix with one of these? Would it at least be a good second set of monitors for reference? |

I have a few Tivoli radios. I can't recommend the wood cab ones for much more than listening casually. They're really 'chesty' sounding. If you put tape over the port on the bottom it helps, but I like the little vertical portable much better soundwise. But even better, and probably in the same price range is the Fostex 6301. Very powerful, compared to the Tivoli. You can get some serious thump if you need it. http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--FOS6301BEAV |

Thanks, Max. I was thinking the Tivoli system might do respectable double duty as monitors, but maybe I shouldn't even try that. Space is tight, so for casual listening I can simply keep my little CambridgeSoundworks Model 88CD table radio. I have a pair of Alesis M1 actives for monitoring. I barely have room for them, but if I'm going to replace them with dedicated monitors, I think I'd aim for an upgrade. Been looking at the Event ASP6. From your comments on the Tivolis for mixing, I'm now thinking my few hundred bucks might be better spent on real monitors. Thanks again. |

P.S. Max, I just noticed you signature line. Sounds like good advice -- along the lines of "Don't try to kill two birds with one stone." |
