Mostly people don't talk about MXL's on this board. tutt tutt Some of them sound like #@$%, others sound OK. I like the V69ME for some applications. |

I really like the V67, its the only 99 dollar mic I still have. It would be a good step up from what you are using now. I like it on acoustic guitar, although it can be a bit noisey if you arent close micing. Its also nice eye candy! But seriously, its well worth a Benjamin! |

I like my V67 on some voices. But I'm really thinking about buying a money condenser soon. And maybe buying a second V67 to use as spaced pair on overheads... |

do you have to hear the voice? ^^ have a look at the link. people keep saying 'some voices' but never go past that... mines a deepish voice with a little rasp. . id just like to be confidant if i bought the mic.

Do you really want V67? There is some other mic's in same price range. Like ADK A51, I have one and I like it very much. Check it out. It won't cost alot more, maybe 10 bucks. If you have a change to test mic's out, do that.

well, here's the problem--even if a mic works on a voice for one song, there's no guarantee that the same mic will work on that same voice for the next song (or any other songs). i have 5 or 6 mics that i typically audition when i'm going to lay down a vocal track for myself, ranging between $35 and $700 in cost. sometimes the live handheld dynamic mic i picked up for $35 used is a better fit for my voice on a particular song than anything else....sometimes not. this is why people say "it works on some voices", as it works on some voices some of the time. will it work on yours? possibly for some things. might it work on a couple songs? absolutely. but there is no such thing as the single mic for one voice for all songs. personally, i think that MXL mics get a bit of a bad rap around here, but then again, they're not exactly "slutty" . i've found the V67 to really work on some voices (and it's craptastic on others), and the discontinued V77 is one of my favorites for guitar amps and female vocals. the problem i see with MXL mics is that there are a lot of really crappy ones and only a few "wholly usable" ones.cheers, wade |

Doc, You act like its the only mic you will ever have in your lifetime! Im sure thats not true. After that, save up for another that will compliment it, or a better one alltogether. The mic was supposedly designed for male voices, but take that with some salt. Its way better than what you are using now, period. That should be a good enough explanation. Why not spend the extra five-0 and get the dual sided 67? One of those sides would surely suit your voice. |

yep yep i was thinking about getting that b4 the mxl but for some reason the mxl was more desirable.i was looking on ebay. com last night (opposed to .au) and can import an AT3035 for $203 im thinking that might also be a good move. |

however, vocals IMO, is *not* where the B1 excels. i've only recorded one vocalist where it was the mic for the voice.......and this guy was one of those "could've put up anything and it would've worked" singers. if i wanted a $100 jack of all trades mic, i'd pick the B1.....but if i wanted a mic solely for vocals at $100, it would probably be the V67. you could do a lot of very solid low budget work with one of each (and you could also do a LOT worse for the money, too). truth be told though, i'd probably save up a few hundred more and track down a used V69 or V77. cheers, wade | |

wow, those are some *steep* prices. ![]() where are you located? maybe there's a "local variety" that is a little more favorable in the pricing arena. i've not used either of those mics you reference, so i can't give you a first hand account. i do know that "Recording" magazine has reviewed both of them in the past, but i'm not sure if those reviews are online or not. if you want, i'll be glad to track down those reviews for you.....but you know how they always go, "great on everything, i bought the review sample, yadda yadda yadda". ![]() i can't say enough good things about the MXL V77, however. great sounding mic, smooooth tone and it's excellent on lots of things. they typically show up on ebay in the $250 range--it's a discontinued mic, so you'd have to find one used. and still, at $250 it's a steal. cheers, wade |
