Levels from Souncraft to Pro-Tools

Hey,

So ive started recording through my soundcraft ghost directly out of the channel to protools. I set my levels on the console and when i record to pro tools the levels ar much lower than the console shows. my first 4 inputs are running into the digi 002 through the mic pres and ive been using those pres to boost the level to a proper recording level fro pro tools but when i bring it back to the board its way tooo hott, almost distorting. what am i doing wrong here. it it becasue im not sending the channels from my console to 1/4" inputs? Any help or better ideas?

I think there's a couple of things you need to do some 'searches' on and read up on them :

- headroom ...... what happens when you go from analog to digital and back and forth and round and round

- metering : your console displays analog levels .... Pro Tools displays digital levels.

They are NOT the same. understanding headroom will help you to understand what you see on which meters.

- and while at it ... probably not a bad thing to read up on what impedance of an output means ... -10 / + 4 ... going from one to the other etc etc ....

Bring all that stuff in relation with each other and calibrate your setup with a signal generator. Once that is done properly you should be fine.

Or get someone who understands all that stuff to help you out with it.
