RED mic capsule for MK-012 - any good?

I see that Red makes capsules for the MK-012 mics. Has anyone here tried these? I am curious as to how they sound.

I almost bought one, but decided to go for the the whole kit with the largecapsules of the mk102. I still might get them though, I'm sure they're a different and useful flavor, and Red has good products. Plus, they're on sale at oktavausa.

Does anyone know how the Red capsule compares to the Lomo M1 capsule?

I believe the RED capsule is the same as the BlueBird, but I am far from certain about this. That mic is bright and clean.

The Lomo is supposed to be fabulous, big and open, and round

Oktava has their own head (if not basically the Lomo, much closer to it) to fit o the MC012. Personally, I'd check that out first. With the modified head, including grill, this should retain the body of the capsule while opening it up.....all with tighter QC than the Lomo had. If it is anything like the caspule for the MK0319 and MK-219 is should be killer. I had my MK319 modded and it is a stone cold knock out and just may be the best all around mic I now own.

Check www.oktavamod.com and ask Michael Joly what his thoughts are.

Man I really still haven't had time to do any real comparisons on the Oktava / Red capsule. Sorry.

Mad, we did a mic shootout last weekend at a local studio and I was thinking that the standard RED capsule (not this Oktava deal which appears to be a medium size diaphragm by looking but the only info I find on it says 34mm capsule!?!?! trust me...this isn't a big capsule unless my eyes are really deceiving me) might very well be the Bluebird capsule. They both deliver a good all purpose sound! I haven't asked RED yet though.

Hey Pinhead, thats what I called you about today. I was going over some half -arsed comparisons I did Sunday, and was astonished at the self noise on the 219 Mike modded for me... I think its lower than a 103, seriously. I dont have the 103 any more, but I would bet it is...

34mm is freakin' huge...it doesn't even look like a 1" but again...looks must be deceiving here!

Mike Joly from Oktavamod sent me 3 new modded mics this week to run thru some paces here. One is the MK-101, that fits on the 012 body. (Like MadG pictured above) I dunno how the Red cap sounds, but I bet the Joly modded headbasket schmokes it! BAM BAM BAM!!

BAM!!!

seriously, havent heard the Red, so I wouldnt know till I did... will be fun though. The naked headbasket and upgraded electronics on these sound real nice! (Mics hes previously sent me, havent used these yet)

My thougths exactly. It's a totally different mic after the mods. He's a wizard, no doubt about it.
