Thread Starter | a/d convertors
i'm looking for 1 of 2 things: a reasonably priced good 2 ch a/d convertor for my fmr rnp. or a reasonably priced good 2 ch. preamp w/ a/d conversion i will be using it w/ a uln-2. i have considered the kurzweil rumor has i have read that the conversion is quite good. and wouldn't be a bad 400 to spend. but... i'm wondering what else is out there? don't want to break the bank. i can likely get another used uln-2 for $7xx or so. so, i'm hoping to keep it below that. swissonics was recommended. but they seem to be a bit difficult to come by. |

Since you want pre-amps as well, another ULN-2 would be a good way. Also in that pricerange: the Joemeek stuff. The pre-amps are actually Burr-Brown based (similar to Sytek for example) and the Joemeeks come with AD convertor build in

| I like it.....I like it a lot
I own a FMR RNP and I use a RME ADI-2. I am very happy with the way it sounds and it was not much money either. That's my .02

| get another MIO
I agree that you should just get another MIO -- whether it be a ULN2 or a 2882. I was in your position a few months ago. Then a couple of 2882s fell in my lap for not much money -- you gotta keep your eyes peeled for them. I didn't need the second 2882, but it was a steeeeeeeeeeal, so I bought the ****er...couldn't help it I recommend getting the +DSP. You'll hear some nay-sayers. There was a lot of buildup about the +DSP features, and MH dropped the ball. I think it became anti-climactic. However, those plugs are excellent! - Jim |

I forgot to mention a super-on-the-cheap option. You could get a Behringer SRC2496. It has two, supposedly pretty good, A/D/A converters for around $100. If you only plan to use the extra channels when needed, then there's no reason to spend a bunch of money. Most your tracks will be stacked with the ULN2 anyway. The Behringer would only be there for "when it's necessary". I know it's Behringer, but check the specks on the conversion. They look pretty good, and I've read that the chips are the same ones used in the Mackie Onyx and RME converters. I don't know about the rest of the converter circuit... |
