Vintage FX and pre amps with the MOST character...

I'm looking for Vintage or really vintage sounding fx units (compressors eqs flanger chorus etc etc) and amps (tube pre amps etc) that impart a LOT of character into the signal path. I'm going to be running synths through them and I want to have a really vintage sound with the synths. Im going to be using mostly analog synths. Please suggest away as to the things with the most character. Thanks!

You don't get much more character than a Mu-Tron Octave Divider:

This over drives nicely:

I run a small Monotribe synth module through it. I just now got a keyboard for it. No more playing that darn ribbon.

I just got my EHX Worm pedal (Phaser/Wah/Tremolo/Vibrato) and man... that's some thick analog mojo!
The FX are not as "obvious" as orher units do them, but this thing has plenty of tone and character. If I switch it off, all the life seems to go away.
