Thread Starter | The cheapest electronic drums I've seen
Anyone used these http://www.zzounds.com/item--IONIED01 ? I'm reading a post on another site about them and have read a review from Sound-on-Sound that was quite encouraging. Looks like a good option for someone needing to trigger BFD or something of the like. Just curious...

i have not heard them. They look good enough though. You might want to swap out some or all of the pedal controllers. I have an old yamaha ds-10 and you could probably get a used one of those for close to that price. Basically if you can perform a good performance into the daw and capture it as midi you can really go nuts with a sampler.

Funny you mention those as I've just ordered that module for 10 GBP (they used to be 5GBP at the same guy's but due to high demand he raised the price) for fun's sake. The rack and pads are supposed to be horrible while the software added to control the module is rather childish (I know, I downloaded it here) http://www.pacificdigital.com/produc...129&ItemID=769 here's the link to the product itself. I just ordered the Module. I know theres midi controller software out that that enables you use samples of your own and record on 3th party programs like DAW's. The guy selling is told me he's working on an update for the program and the factory itself too. I might ask a friend of a friend of mine to try and make a software for it too, or at least a mod so I can import sound files to my likings. I'll let you know when I have the module. P.s. you could get the module as a controller and make pads yourself. For 40 or so, you could have a DIY Roland V drum type of pad. I could help you make them, theres quite a lot of resources on that right now. |

i think the thomann millenium ones look better cos at least u get a proper footpedal pad to use your own kik-pedal with, not a crappy plastic switchpedal |

The Thomann pad sets seem nice, but as I've said, you can make V drums yourself.

I would be very interested in hearing more about low cost modules and DIY edrums. I would like to get something for songwriting and possibly triggering BFD or something similar but can't spend the $$ for the Roland/Hart/Yamaha kits.

The ion kits are crap. Be prepared to hate them. The triggers aren't even gummy, they're hard plastic. A $.05 piezoelectric disc is what makes all the triggers work, so making your own triggers is certainly a possibility. However, I think most people would prefer something that feels at least a little like real drums. That's the nice thing about the Hart and Pintech kits.

This site has all you need on pads: Here's some trigger to midi modules, this way you can control Battery or whatever VSTi's you want, http://edrum.for.free.fr/modules.php...viewlink&cid=2 | |

I built a few triggers a long time ago using a 2x10, some plate steel, and rubber automotive floor mats. They worked fine.

| Back then I was too poor to afford a camera. It's a simple theory: you want metal to mount the piezo disc on (I duct-taped the disc to the metal), rubber for the striking surface, and wood because it's easy to screw everything into. I think I used foam insulation tape to space the metal plate off of the wood. You can make them any shape or size you want. |

Well since it's relavant. Here's a little site I made for my buddies at V-Drums.com. It how I took a cheap e-kit commonly sold on ebay and converted it to Mesh heads. It's not slutty, but it gets the job done. Cheap E-Drumkit conversion |
