Thread Starter | Well since there's not a forum dedicated to treating your room... I guess I'll just post this in the Low End Theory forum since I'm poor. This is just a copy paste from another forum: Here's a general layout of my room. As usual, this is my spare room that I want to be my mixing environment. I'm just looking for some help as to how I should lay it out (where my desk should go) and where I should start with some future treatment. At the bottom I'm posting a pic of the room from overhead. The ceiling is 7ft 8in high. The bed is staying where it is, but I have two options as to where to place my desk (1 and 2). A piano will be put wherever I don't put my desk. If I put my desk in spot 1 the walls on my right and left will be closer. If I put it in 2 then I'll have a window directly behind me. I don't know if either of those is good or bad. Haha. My floor is pergo I believe. Also, I have some yorkville monitors. How far away from the wall should they be? I know you don't want them right up against it, right? Suggestions and opinions? |

| Put the desk in position 1. It is felt that the monitors should be placed 38% towards the rear of the room...which doesn't look possible from your diagram. BUT don't worry so much about that yet. You've got plenty of acoustic treatment to do first. Go here: http://www.recording.org/modules.php...viewforum&f=34 And here: http://www.realtraps.com/articles.htm (scroll down for a lot of articles), especially "Room Acoustics", "Improving Your Monitoring", and "Recording Spaces".

| Chris, > I'm just looking for some help as to how I should lay it out (where my desk should go) and where I should start with some future treatment. < You already got some good links. There are many articles on the RealTraps site that explain this stuff in detail, and How to Set Up a Room is a good place to start. There's also a video version of that article that explains even more. To answer your main question, you want the loudspeakers to fire the longer way down the room. Click HERE to see a graph that shows the response both ways in a room similar to yours, and you can clearly see the difference in orientations. --Ethan
