Upload your ART Tube MP vocal

Been hearing great things about this ART Tube MP. I've heard a shoot out in here between it and the Great River. However does anyone else have a vocal recording with the preamp they want to upload please?

Many thanks.

I have some, but it's kinda crusty screaming and I deliberately used the preamp to overdrive the vocal. For mic I used a sm58-copy from Behringer - for this vocalist it sounded a lot better than a standard Shure sm58. I really liked the result.

Let me know if think you could use it.

I was given art tube mp from a friend.

I can't use the gain stage in it,I turn it all the way down.then run the signal from my isa one threw it,or use it as a insert on my mixing console.

When I use it thus way it actually sound pretty good.

When I use the gain knob, the out come is dull and muffled.I never tried to eq it to brighten it up.

I only tested the mp,I never use it,I just use my tube mic when I need tube.

It good for the price.

I was cleaning house, pulling out some items that had been sitting unused on the shelf, and doing a little experimentation this evening and thought I would post something on this long dead thread...lol

Regarding the Tube MP: IMO the gain staging on the ART can be a little finicky and counter-intuitive and needs some fine-tuning of settings to get the optimal output. Without being very careful I find it easy to get into noise / hiss territory with this preamp. It does, however have a lot of 'character' if pushed.

So here is a short acappella test vocal to show that with proper settings you can get a (somewhat) decently clean signal out of this little box.

Chain: AT4040 -> ART Tube MP -> Echo Audiofire 2 -> Reason

Of note, I am aware of the fact there is a healthy (i.e. overdone) amount of processing going on...... it is purposeful because otherwise I really cannot stomach the sound of my own voice dry.

The vocal track on this was done with the tube MP. I used a golden age project FC 4 mic on both guitar and vocal into a presonus firestudio.

Edit: are you not allowed to post links? I thought I posted one...

Tube MP's were the first and only external preamps that I had any experience with for a long time. I bought the Dual MP (rack unit) and the smaller Tube MP well over ten years ago. They've gotten tons of use, and they still work and sound just like they did when they were new. So, in my experience, they are solid, reliable units, and although I'm as bad as the next gearslut about drooling over all the high end gear, the lowly Tube MP's honestly still sound pretty good to me.

I recorded this original tune back around '01 on a Korg D12 digital recorder, using a Dual MP for vocals and guitar. The vocal mic was a KSM32.

It's actually 4 tracks, the 3rd one has the most vocals in it so skip that that if you want.

Everything was sE X1R > Art Tube MP > Tascam FW 1804 line in
Electric guitars straight into the Art.

Ok...here is a 20 second clip of my cover of Level 42's 'Something About You'.

Vocal chain same as above:

AT 4040 -> ART Tube MP -> Echo Audiofire 2

Recorded and mixed in Reason. Overall there are 11 tracks of vocals. 10 are the background harmonies and one lead.

EDIT: I am also including the same clip with just the vocals and no music, so you can hear the stacked ART. FWIW...there is no vocal tuning going on here so forgive any bum notes. I tend to sing the parts over again until I can get it as close to useable as possible.

Excuse me gannonsamuel. Are you actually running a ribbon mic through the Tube MP? Brave.

here is my contribution. Audix CX112 > Tube MP into a Saffire Pro 24 > Propellerhead Reason 6.5 > Mac mini. No effects, no compression, no EQ, no nothing. Oh yeah, parental discretion is advised.

I would never even have thought to try to use it with a ribbon mic. I assumed there would be way too much noise. Looks like I'm wrong. Not the first time nor the last time.

Hmm, It can get a bit noisy i guess, though i've found the output of the sE to be pretty beefy anyways in general, maybe i've lucked out on a particularly quiet MP and a particularly loud sE?
