Need monitors. £600 Budget, what do I go for?

I've got UP TO £600 for a pair of studio monitors. They will be used for mixing songs in Pro Tools.

I was thinking about a pair of Genelec 8030a's for £800 (a bit over budget) but wondered what my best options were?

I have only listened to expensive/large monitors such as Adams, Genelec 8050s, KRK VXT8s etc (bar avantone mix cubes) so I haven't got a great deal of listening time in the mid price range.

Any recomendations, suggestions or general advice appreciated!

You might want to audition some offerings from Dynaudio as well. I've been happy with the BM6A (mkI), which I believe have been recently discontinued.

These are superb and you can get a pair for under £500.

They used to cost loads more, but M-Audio are discontinuing them, so prices have been hugely slashed...

Stretch the budget to AE22? Or get the passives for just under your budget. Best monitors under £1000 (apart from if you're interested in specialist things like Avantones or Focal 40s).

Mannnnnn, I'm trying to lower the budget if possible. I hate buying budget, I love expensive stuff it's always better :p

But I've gotta eat for the next 4 months so I've got to be careful!

Thanks for the recommendation though

Anyone compared the Genelec 8030s and KRK VXT6s? They both fall within size, budget and get good reviews.

Can't find anywhere that will demo Monitors in Cardiff, only HiFi shops :L

Bit of a mission just to test some monitors. Especially as I don't own a car :p

But thanks for your suggestion! If I'm Bristol before Christmas by chance I'll know where to look

The other ones I like the sound of are the focal cms40. Yes I know they are lacking in low end but the mid range is really informative. Like aura tones on steroids. I'm getting a pair for home use to do edits etc....
