Just returned my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40

I'm running Pro Tools 10 on a PC and keep getting "ASIO properties have changed and Pro Tools needs to restart". I contacted Avid and Focusrite. Neither could figure the issue out. I'm looking for a replacement, slight upgrade with AT LEAST 8 channels. I'd spend up to $1,000, but the Saffire 56 uses the same drivers and am afraid of the same issue arising. Anyone out there have a solution?

I have no issues at all with my Profire 2626 on Pt9 win7 64bit.

Maybe check out RME Fireface 800?

Aiso4all driver cures most things. I use it for my saffire 24.

Do you always make sure to change the sample rate to that of the PT session before you open the session?

I use Pro 40 with PT 10 also. Besides what the previous poster said, make sure you have the sample rate set the same in the mix control software.

Thanks guys, but I already returned it. I performed everything, including AISO4ALL and I'm still getting errors. So, I'm going to upgrade to something more stable for my computer. It's a 64 bit Windows 7 machine. I'm told that there have been driver updates gearing up for Windows 8 that could possibly be causing this issue.

I just returned my Pro 24 because of constant driver issues.

Focusrite's USB drivers are totally plug and play for me. Once I switched over to their FW stuff I couldn't get anything to work at all (and I'm a software developer...). It was like audio paralysis.

I don't blame Focusrite entirely. I've noticed FireWire devices in general always have more issues than USB. Make sure your FireWire card is Texas Instruments chipset. Other than that, all you can do is pray. Luckily my Profire2626 works fine so far with my PC.

VIA chipset is often supported now too and comes as standard on many motherboards that include FW.

Get the Roland Octacapture. You'll love it, sounds amazing. Really stable drivers and very low latency on both Mac and PC.

Thanks for all the input!!! I just put myself in the poor house... LOL! I ordered the Lynx AES16e and Aurora 8. God bless me... Yet, I'm quite excited to see what these things can do! I'm still waking up in the middle of the night from nightmares of restarting Pro Tools!

Focusrite officially approves both TI and VIA chipsets and I tried both. I'm 90% sure my interface itself was defective and that the connection was physically dropping. I wonder if the OP had the same problem because everytime my connection dropped some software I was using would need to restart/just freeze.

I do blame Focusrite for that, but I still think they make good stuff in general.
