I've got £2000 to spend. . .

Hi there,

I was wandering if I could talk somethings over with some of you helpful people here at gs?

I've managed to get my mits on £2000 and I want to spend it! I've got logic and I'm happy with it. I've also an ADK s-7 which I really like on trumpet and a rode nt-1 which I don't like so much. I'm currently using a Focusrite saffire pro 40 which I don't like at all.

I want to try and make this dosh go as far as possible because, being a musician, I'm quite poor. (Although I did study music technology and have been recording at home for a while, so I'm not a complete novice)

I want to be able to record drums so I'm pretty sure I'm gunna get a shure b52 and a few sm57's and I've also decided on some krk rp6's which leaves me with 1400 to spend on: a pair of mics which I can use as overheads, for accordion, acoustic guitar, piano, Maybe a vocal mic that I actually like and I'd really like a pair of preamps to get me out of this cheap focusrite hell.

Here's what my plan was: A pair of ADK Vienna's (Although now I've just read about the new ADK odin's), maybe a neumann tlm 102 (?) and for the preamp I'm not sure, I thought maybe a dav bg1 but then maybe I should save some more and get a lunch box with a couple of modules of some sort (??).

Despite not being a mega fan, I would say I love the trumpet sound of Beirut and the general sound of his albums 'Gulag orkestar' and 'The flying club cup'. I use similar instrumentation as him so it's an easy comparison to make. Perhaps someone might like to listen to what I've done to get an idea of what kit might suit me: George Arnold | Facebook

I appreciate that 2 grand is not a lot to get so much stuff with and none of it's going to make me sound like a star I just want some better stuff. Any advice anyone can give me would be great and If I've made any big gs booboos in this little essay of mine go easy on me, I'm only little.

Thanks.

It's a pretty small bedroom that I share with my girlfriend. I don't think I'm gunna be staying here long so I'm reluctant to spend money on treating this room. I usually just hang all the soft things I can find on the walls when I track. Monitors; like I say, I was planning on getting KRK RP6 G2s unless anyone else here can tell me a better way to spend my money.
