USD prices. audix d6 kick - can be found for $175 a Unidyne-labeled SM57 (older ones) top snare - $90 2 Sennheiser 904's Toms - $380-400 Studio Projects C4 stereo pair O-heads - $300 puts you at $965. leaves $35 for some beer and babyback ribs. OR you could come up with just about $120 more bucks for an Audix D4 floor tom mic.

Studio Projects C4 pair is an excellent suggestion on a budget, the cardioid and omni caps come in handy for different situations and have a very nice response for drum use. Audix i5 on snare = kills an SM57 in my experience. Audix D2 rack toms, Audix D4 floor is hard to beat. E/V ND868 has been good to me on kick. I really like the AT3031 on hi hat lately. War |

d112 used for 100-125? (if you're going for a ...rounder? kick) D6 used for 150? (better for modern or clicky stuff) I-5 is pretty fun on snare. 99 the audix D4 is pretty awesome.... but for another option you could do a 3 pack of e604's on the toms for 300. i know a lot of people who love them, and they are easy to clip onto the toms... no mic stands. i'd totally skip the hihat mic, saves money and tracks...no one really NEEDS a hihat mic. over heads could go with the oktava 012's. 200 used or new from oktava usa for 350-400. hmm let's see... that comes to like 699-969 ish. depending on what route you take. those are all pretty standard mics. most people are familiar with them, reliable etc etc. though i guess if you want to have the "super familiar" thing going on you could throw a 57 on the snare instead. whatever works! -w |

How's the bleed on the Audix i5 compared to a 57 on snare?

audix d-4 on the floor tom is killer. audio technica 4040s on overheads. used a shure 58 with the transformer ripped out on the high tom. its nice and bouncy sounding. that sennheiser e-609 silver on toms sounds crappy in comparison. kick drum- audix d-6 and a audiotechnica 4047 about 3 feet away on the outside of the kick sometimes making a tunnel with a chair and packing blanket.

i would try to find a used pair of Beyer M160's, but test them before you lay the cash down. Buying used ribbon mics can backfire. they're great for overheads. 2nd hand D112 and 57's for the rest, and you should be under budget.
