| Low Budget Podcast Gear
A friend and I are wanting to start a podcast up. He's in another state so we'll be running everything through Skype and then add on a guest or two every show. I'll probably be recording the show and uploading it to a website and when we do the actual recording of the show, I'll be livestreaming the show for everyone to tune in and watch everything live.
I've been looking around for low cost podcast gear and I think I've found what I want but I would like to get some input from everyone.
My budget is around $300 for the mixer and around $100 for the mic.
I would like to run Firewire but it seems that you aren't able to get that on the cheaper boards so I'll settle for USB. Mic:
I'm looking into getting an MXL 990. Yes, I realize it's $80 but from all the sound tests and everything I've listened to, it sounds like a solid mic. Are there any other mics that have the same sound quality (or better) for the price? I'm not set on the 990 but so far it seems to work for me. Mixer:
This is where I get a little lost. From what I've read, the Yamaha MW12CX seems to get good reviews as well as the Allen and Heath ZED-10FX. I'm open to other boards but those are the main two I've researched a lot.
Now here's the twist to all of this. Someone is selling a Soundcraft Spirit Live 4/2 Mixer well within my price range but I don't really know much about this mixer other than I'll need some extra things to run it. I've read some threads on this mixer and it seems to be a pretty solid board. Even though it's massive compared to the other two I was looking at, would this be a good option and what other things will I need to run it?
If you guys could help me out, that would be great and also save me a TON of time researching all of this.
Thanks!
