Alternative to Yamaha NS10's

Hi,

I'm looking for a pair of monitors to compliment my Neumann KH120's.
I would quite like something along the lines of the Yamaha NS10's with a more emphasized mid range but active and cheaper.

I've been considering the following

Studiospares SN10a

Studiospare SN10A Active Monitors at Studiospares

Avantone Mixcubes

Avantone Active MixCube Powered Full-Range Mini Reference Monitors

Behritone C50a

Behringer: BEHRITONE C50A

Yamaha HS80

HS80M - HS series - Yamaha - UK and Ireland

What are your thoughts on these and which would be most useful as a compliment to my KH120's for mixing?

Equator D5, only $299 a pair, money back guarantee

Amazing time aligned sound

Custom made coaxial drivers, DSP, inbuilt amplification, factory direct marketing

I have a pair of NS-10m that are powered by a Bryston 4B. I rarely listen to them but I listen to the Equator D5 all the time. I just bought a second pair of D5 that sits right next to my Meyer HD-1's.

I love the transparency of the D5. I could probably EQ them to sound mid-rangey like the NS-10m but there would be no way to turn off that great time aligned delivery of the D5's :-)

I could easily get by with just a pair of D5's, they are so true and uniform. BTW I did an extensive shoot out that included the Neumann monitors, double blind we all liked the D5's better.

Good music to you!

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the Equator D5's and yes they appear to be good value! They cost £349 in the UK which is a little disappointing as $299 in UK pounds is around £180.

I am quite interested in the Studiospares SN10a, Auratone Mixcubes and Behritones as they are sealed box designs. I really like this type of speaker for mix checking and the SN10a's and Behritones are very affordable!

I already have the Neumann KH120's which are excellent main nearfield monitors. The Equator D5's look like they are intended for similar use as my Neumanns and I am looking for something quite different as reference monitors!

The Mixcubes look like they should fit the bill nicely for my small room!

They also aren't ns10s...even if they look like them.

Transient response - the thing that makes 10s so useful - isn't half as revealing.
