PreSonus Fader freezes ProTools 10.2

I've been battling with this for a few days now, any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm running win7 64bit. Installed pro tools 10.2 and could not get the FaderPort to work. Downloaded an older version of the drive for the fader, but it is doing the same thing. After going into "Peripherals", choosing faderport Receive From and Send To menus and “#Ch’s” menu to 8, as soon as I click OK ProTools freezes.

Don't know why I got myself into this mess, should have just saved the money. But since I'm in it, would love to get it to work.

You say that you installed an older driver, but did you update the firmware as well? I had the same problem with my FaderPort and Reaper. Nothing worked on the FaderPort except the pause lighted key.

I installed the older driver (v. 1.2) and updated the firmware to 1.2 on my Win7 64 bit system. Then I installed the 1.35 driver WITHOUT updating the firmware. This is a documented fix over at the Presonus forums. After setting up the FaderPort as an input and control device in Reaper /options/control surface, it worked perfectly. Don't set it up as a MIDI device if it allows that option.

Also, make sure that the FaderPort is recognized as a USB device in Windows devices and printers. If that's not the case, start there and then do your updates as described above. Don't despair, the controller works great when you get it going.

Travst thanks, I'll def give it a go when I get home. And I love the faderport, when it works. I had a hard time setting it up in protools 8, but once I got it to work it made things so much easier. Now that I upgraded to pt 10, I was excited to continue using the fader until I pluged it in and it crashed protools.

The faderport is a quirky little device. Make sure to run PT 'as administrator' at least once, and it should hammer out any issues.

I'm shocked it works. I stopped using it PT 8 + Vista days. It was a royal PITA back then.
In Device Manager it shows up under -Sound, Video, and Game controllers tab.

Try disconnecting Faderport, Uninstall it and Reboot. After reboot:
go into: DAE folder> delete the DAE Pref folder.
go into: Roaming folder> delete Avid folder.
go into: Pro Tools folder> delete Databases folder.
Reboot and then try installing Faderport with latest driver/firmware.
Hope that helps.

Don't know how much more of this I can take.

Tried everything that you guys have suggested. The Faderport is being recognized through Device Manager, "Stop" button is lit at all times, "Off, Bank, Shift" button light up when no DAW is running, but as soon as I attempt to input the information into the peripherals section pt freezes up on me. At times I have closed the frozen protools and when I reopened it the "Loop" button would be on (which is something I remember happening in pt8 when my fader worked), but as soon as I try to open a session the DAW dies. As wearecreative suggested, i have tried doing all of the suggestions as an administrator and the usual way. No luck......i'll keep battling with it until I can save up some real money for large controller, or maybe even an analog board at some point.

I had many issues with PT10.2 update from locks, crashing and PT not wanting to launch.
Disabling core parking on Win7 fixed everything for me. Worth checking out if you are using a multicore cpu.
