Not amp modeling but through a mic pre

I wanna track some guitars using a few pedals. I can go guitar in effect boxes into... Dedicated mic pre.. Or a preamp with instrument/line or mic. What's best for stomp boxes. I'd prefer an amp mic situation but noise restrictions...thanks

i have a focusrite tonefactory. it has mic/line/instrument. which option would be good for guitar effect pedals. i need to have a drummer play along to the guitar but the guitar sound not bleeding in drum mics. i would usually just use a POD for this but some of the effect pedals help create the sound (this would be a scratch track but just in case it'd be cool if i could have the option to use the guitar track...i guess the tonefactory is a DI?

Instrument is a built-in DI.
