Korg R3 or anything better for a bit more $?

Im planning on buying a korg R3. I have looked at the microKORGs and XL, but i have passed on those.

What I want in the synth:

1. Vocoder.
2. Rich, warm pads. (Priority)

I know the Korg R3 inst known for the pads, but to my understanding, you can add paches vis USB (i like that idea) so maybe there is a possibility for nice pads. I have looked on YouTube and I heard some decent ones that I like.

So my question, does anyone know if a Korg R3 will suit me? is there anything else maybe that is more expensive (under $1200, used is no matter) that is worth getting instead?

Thanks for any tips!

I own an R3 and let me tell you, i feel like you can do much better with a budget like that. The R3 is honestly a half-ass synth, and never really gives me what I'm looking for. Korg had the right idea, just missed the mark though. If I were you, I would take a look at the Oberheim Matrix 6, and the Roland SVC-350. Do things right the first time... If you can't wait to save up the extra cash however, and are pretty adamant on this piece of gear, BUY USED. Then go ahead and sell it for what you bought it in a few months. Haha...

Okay, I didnt know that about the R3. Mind you, I have never seen it in real life, and my little town does not have a store that can even order in one of those, so it makes purchasing a tough thing for me.

I really like the Oberheim Matrix 6, but I cant seem to find one for sale. Anything else thats like it? Btw, how much would the Oberheim Matrix 6 cost, used (obviously), roughly?

seen a few go for 500, realistically you're looking at about 6-7 though. Try ebay, and keep in mind that programming is a lot of button pushing, but it's well worth it.

What sort of DAW do you use? With Logic 9 you have a built in vocoder, polysynths and sampler that can all blow that thing out of the water.

Definitely right with the amount of polysynths to choose from, I think the vocoder and sound will beat logic here though. Personal opinion..
