Is there a plugin that checks your file for clipping?

Is there a plugin (or app or some kind of DAW capability I don't know about) that checks your file for clipping? It'd be nice to have a plug or app that instantly checks a file, mix, or track, without you having to play the entire mix and check for red clipping indicators.

I use Logic generally, but I know in iTunes you can adjust the volume of an aac file, so who knows when it's clipped or digital overed? Is it easy to see when an audio track hits clipping in Logic? I've seen the flat tops before but it's not always visible when my meter shows red.

Sometimes I wish I could just drop a file (mp3, aif, etc.) on an app and have it instantly checked and provided with overage or clipping info (where and how much, etc.).

Are there such things, or am I stuck with waiting for entire mixes to play through?

Thanks in advance.

Audacity (a simple multi track editor) does that - there's a visual setting which will show all the clips.

There must be plugins or DAWs that do this? But I don't know what.

Voxengo SPAN:

Solid State Logic also has an inter sample peak meter:

Both are free!

SoundForge fearures a tool for statistics which report clipping with RMS and offset value as well.
Note that using the normalisation option in the bounce menu in Logic avoids any clipping.

Just dl'd AudioLeak. Dropped a wav file on it, and presto--it showed me peak data, and the graph was easy to read. Pretty much exactly what I needed, although I'm not sure what "weighted" and "unweighted" mean yet.

I read up on it a while ago and forgot the details but basically, and if i remember correctly, it takes into account perception curves of which frequencies people tend to perceive as loud as opposed to linearly measured loudness.

C'monn guys, don't guess, look it up! Research is what makes one wise:

There is also the afclip command line utility that indicates clipping and intersample clipping. You need the Apple audio mastering tools installed. (free download)
