XLR cable with switch

Hello,

i'm hoping someone out there can assist me with finding a vendor that sells custom microphone cables. I am using a handheld dynamic mic but it does not have an on/off switch. Either does my preamp. It's a pain to have to turn the volume up and down on the preamp all the time. I've seen some cables that are 25 feet long that have a built in Neutrik switch. Does anyone have any experience with these? Will it cause a pop if everything is connected?

I know that some of you are going to tell me to just buy the connector and solder it myself but I do not have the necessary tools to do so. I need something about 6 feet and the only other ones I see are like 25 feet.

I also refuse to try the Hosa version. Don't ask me why.

Switchcraft also makes a switch built into an XLR end. Why would having the extra cable length be a problem? With what you will pay to have these custom made, you could buy a cheap soldering iron and some solder and learn to do it yourself and still save money, but I understand the concept of plug and play, so I'm with you... I just want you to understand that you'll pay the freight for not wanting to DIY and this is one of those places where DIY isn't such a big deal. A lot of people here go to Redco for cables and such. I've never bought from them, but I don't think I've ever seen a bad word about them anywhere.

thank you for the skillful reply. I just want you to be there if I do decide to do it myself because I don't know how to use a fire extinguisher either.

Just would like you to know that I decided to actually do this project myself. All I can say is that I got it to work. It is not pretty at all. The connections are all crooked and ugly and I could hardly get the surrounding pieces to fit back on it. I'm quite proud of myself if I say so myself. The only problem is that the level sounds kind of low. I'm gonna compare it to another cable and see if maybe I'm just tripping.

I think I may have saved a dollar doing it myself but I also got a soldering iron and some solder for the money I would have spent on the cable alone. I don't think I'm that great at soldering at all. I did watch a few tutorial vids on YouTube before I did the project so I knew a little bit of what to expect. I did not make much of a mess at all and there was no fire!

Good man! Remember, the next time you make a cable, take some time to review the video, and make couple of practice connections on some scrap wire before tackling the main project. And there is nothing wrong with do-overs.
