Modding KRK Rokit5?

Hi,

I saw a thread somewhere (not sure in which forum) that explains about two methods of modding a Behringer 2030P, and thought maybe i can try one of that mods on my KRK Rokits.

The simpler of the two mods, which is the one i want to use, describes how to improve the sound of the speakers by filling them with a 2' thick rockwool for better dampening. From user's reviews, this mod presented an enormous improvement in the overall sound clarity of the speakers.

Do you think it will be effective on my Rokits as it was on the Behri's?

Take in account that i'm intended to make this mod on an active speakers, unlike the original that was made on passive ones.

Peace

I know there are lots of technical geniuses in this forum, i bet one of you will know the answer
and i think we can all benefit from it, it's a quite cheap and easy mod that anyone can apply.

I pretty sure if that would improve the sound the engineers at KRK would have built it like this is the first place. My guess is it will ruin the bass response.

KRK Rokits are at the cheap end of the active monitor scale, so of course there are going to be cheap and cheerful components inside.

However, an active monitor is a balancing act of many variables that all play upon each other to give the intended response. Messing with the acoustical space may well seem to improve one area of the sound, but could totally compromise another.
Like for example bunging up a bass reflex port to make it more liked a sealed enclosure, whilst seeming to improve bass tightness, risks increasing distortion and causing the voice coil to move in a way it wasn't designed for which could potentially have long term implications.

As this is just adding a layer of absorption inside that I assume wouldn't block the port at all, you could try it I suppose and always remove it after if it makes no difference or sounds worse. Just be careful not to damage anything whilst poking around inside and be aware this may also void any existing warranty.

can i damage the amplifier inside the speaker if it will touch the rockwool?
fibers are falling off the rockwool all the time, can it damage anything inside the speaker?
