Bass amp with condenser mic...

Hi guys, this is my situation, Up until now I have been recording my bass guitar through my Boss BR800 using the onboard bass amp modellers, into my DAW. My mate had a bass amp that he never used so he gave it to me, it's a decent amp, I have 3 condenser microphones but no dynamic microphones. I was wondering would a condenser mic be ok for recording from the amp or would a dynamic mic like the sm7 be better.
Also when I do go to record from the amp what way do I mic up the amp....
Oh yeah, the 3 mics I have are the Studio projects B1, Audio Technica AT2035 and The Rode NT1A.

Each of these 3 mics will do. Place the mic in the center of the cone while playing your bass and listen back with headphones. then move the mic to the side of the speaker until you find the sweet spot.

Love the sm7 but I've never liked it on cabs, bass or guitars
One of the last mixes I've done the producer recorded the
bass with an AT4050 not too close to the cab (DI was there as well) and
it sounded great. Granted it was a good sounding Pbass into an SVTII
and a good bass player but still

+1

DI plus a condenser not too close to the cab sounds great on Bass.

I have been using a combination of two sm57´s close miking one 10" speaker of the bass cabinet, one center and one further out closer to the edge and also DI and my Studio projects B1 something like 1 meter or 1.5 meters from the bass speaker to get the sound of the complete cab/cabs.

these are recorded to 4 separate channels in the DAW and then mixed to get the prefered sound.

It has worked very well actually.

The DI is good for the very clean low end especially, the close sm57´s for the more gnarly mid range and the distance mic (B1) for the combined image and amp in room feel.

I had to back tube and condenser mics off the cab a bit to get good tracks. Otherwise I use a D112 or 421.

Some small diaphragm condensers, i.e.AT 4041, have worked very well on bass cab for me. To my ear, the "harder" sound of the 4041 compliments the cab sound nicely, and self noise (typically higher with SDC's) is not an issue on cab. IMHO, and YMMV.
