Local slutz search

Hello fellow slutz ! As you can see, i have a very low post count since I joined here a few years ago. The main reason for this is that although I do have some experience recording, not a whole hell of a lot though, I have finally gotten up the courage to ask for some assistance. I have foolishly hoped that I could do it all myself, and could do quite a bit if given the right circumstances and location, but at the moment that is not the case. I've been stuck in a literal limbo for quite some time now, and owuld like to break out of it, but require some help, if anybody is willing to assist.
I live in Rhode Island, am 45 years old, I am no virtuoso at anything I play, which is guitar, bass, drums, and I sing as well. I have recorded a full length cd previously, playing all parts. But in order to escape this rut, I think outside influence could help tremendously. So, what I am in search of, if possible, are fellow slutz nearby who might possibly be open to collaboration, and/ or assistance. I am no idiot ( most of the time), and have constant musical ideas flowing through my brain. I also have the capability to finish material, including lyrics, but have been searching the Craigslist forums for a long time looking for compatible musicians, with near zere sucess. It seems, either the musical styles dont fit, or age is too much of a factor, or other things.
I play and write rock. Plain old rock, no metal, no electro, no blues. Etc...and i seek others who just like to write and record. I havent played out in a long time, but would if the situation and sound is right. I am also an original artsist, meaning that I dont get satisfaction from playing songs off the radio, i prefer to write my self, or to be a active participant in the writing process. To create, not imitate...how original is up to other peoples' opinions, as long as it is new, and not a copy.
I hope to find people who feel the same, and would take a chance with a fellow local. Perhaps they feel the same, and end up doing the same thing that I do, and wouldmwelcome a change.
Ok, heres what i have to offer equipment wise. At the moment, i have been using DP 6 on and older 2.3 gz dual g5 mac. Interface is a 896 mk3, with a behringer ADA 8000 for extra inputs. Mic pres other than those are presonus eureka, 2 rane ms1, m audio dmp3, and FMR RNP...Comps I have at the moment are VLA 2, and FRM RNC. I have a pretty good low end mic locker, 2 v67g's, 2 mxl 603's, mxl v69, pair of little blondies, i5, sm57, 2 Blue Balls, 2 fatheads, mxl cr24 set, and some others. 3 basses, all low end, 7 guitars, also all low end, but vary in styles and pickup configs due to need for different flavors. One acoustic. A converted ludwig acoustic kit into electric kit with homemade mesh heads and dm triggers for superior drummer. Multiple cymbals ( live cymbals---samples sound like shit )
I also have some other low end stuff but that would make this already too-long post even longer. I know this is a shot in the dark, but what the hell. I have been silent too long, and stubborn for even longer. If there is anyone experienced and intelligent out there that is looking for fellow locals to collaborate with, I would be eager to try. So, have at me if I sound like an idiot, or speak up if you might be into trying it. I just might suprise you. Like I said earlier, i play mostly rock, with a love of acoustic based rock, but not necessarily folk. I like styles with some power, and like pretty strong drums and rythems...
Just throwing out a line into the ether.....maybe i will get lucky...i just dont want to do it all myself anymore.....thanks if you read this...............Pete

Good luck dude! If I lived within 2000 miles I'd help out, actually sounds like a cool project to hone skills.

I came here because the thread name made me chuckle...
I'm afraid I can't be of any assistance, however, I wish you the best of luck in finding people to collaborate with! :D

Pics....

Im going to try to upload some pics...not too good quality though..basically, i followed some instructions i read online. I took old drumheads off, used an exacto knife and cut plastic off the rings. Made as smooth as possible. Then took some heavy screening material i found at Lowes, doubled it up, laid it on the floor and cut out a circle about 1-2 inches wider in diameter than the aluminum ring. Then using a relatively thick needle, i used some Power-Pro 30 lb spectra fishing line and proceeded to sew the material onto the aluminum ring. Took a bit of time, but hey, it was interesting, and I wanted to see if I could make it work. Once the sewing was done, i used a hot glue gun to lay a light bead along the stitches for extra security. Once cool and cured all i needed to do was place the ring on the drum,( which I lightly sanded by hand to eliminate any sharp points ), and the replace the outside hoop...tightened it up and it seemed pretty good. I then did my other 4 toms and a pork pie snare drum. Both heads each. When tightened, the heads had a decent snappy bounce, but they rang out a little, so i filled them with foam and small pillows i bought. The heads are now remarkably quiet, not silent, mind you but pretty quiet.
I was going to try to mount homemade piezo triggers, but that seemed a little too technical to me at the time so I ordered a set of DM triggers from Amazon. I also had a roland stand up kick drum trigger assembly from a previous hybrid setup, so that is what i use for the kick. Now i am using an Alesis dm5 for the trigger brain connection before it is midi'd into my mac. I did find that the snare i made isnt as sensetive as I needed, so I used a GC gift card to buy a Roland dual trigger snare drum.. The toms dont need the sensitivity that the snasre does, so it works ok for what i need it for. I have live hi-hats, 13 inch Zildjians, and about 7-8 mixed cymbals to complete the set. Eventually I intend to build a set of Octabans for the kit, but not until i get some space. At present, my living situation is too cramped, i dont even have the room to set the kit up.. Ok, enough blabbering, i'll try uploading the pics now...cheers..Well, it seems i cant get any of my photos to upload in the file management part of this reply...if you are really interested, i could send them by e-mail...but the photos arent that great...they were taken in bad lighting with a chead nikon point and shoot....oh and thanks to you guys for the support, i am hopeful myself...thanks again Slutz ! Hope to meet some soon...............Pete
