Thread Starter | Help with ART Tube MP Project Series Preamp???
Hey, I just got an Tube MP Project Series Preamp and I'm running into a problem. It seems like it isn't really powering up. I plug the included cord into it and it starts up for a second and then all the LED lights just stop, and there is no sound. I'm using a dynamic mic (Shure SM7B) so I wouldn't need phantom power. From what the Manuel says, all I need to do is plug in the Preamp, then plug my mic in and the Preamp to my interface (Fast track ultra 8r). I'm doing all this and it won't seem to work. Anyone know what's going on?

Are you getting a signal reading when you crank the volume up and speak or sing into the mic? If so, then your connection to the Fast Track Ultra may be the issue. And the issue may be either the connection (how it's plugged in) or how you are trying to monitor the sound (are you going into your DAW program and setting a live track and then setting it to either "listen" or "live" mode?).

Nope I get no signal, it just appears as the pre is off, though I have it turned on. I run it out to the Fast Track with A 1/4 inch cord into the Fast Tracks Line In. And yeah on Protools, I have an audio track open, set to the correct input and set to record

A bass was the first thing I tried, that seemed to somewhat work, it still seemed to be cutting in and out though. But that was at first, after that the LED just went and the The bass sound became quiet. And also the SM7 works fine plugged directly to the interface, it's just quiet, so it's not a problem with the mic. Perhaps a defective Preamp? I think It's more likely I'm doing something wrong though. The power cord also looks like it doesn't go in all the way, so I was leaving it how it naturally went in, maybe I should apply a bit more force and push it all the way in?

Humm..Could be the tube itself..You have another tube laying around you could swap out.? BTW, is there a LED on for the power..?..If not, maybe the PSU adapter also.Try pushing in the adapter some more...

Could possibly be the tube, but changing it would void the warranty, so I don't want to risk changing it if it ends up being defective. I'll try using a little more force on the plug tomorrow when I go to the practice space. Thanks for all your advice!

Ohhh and I don't think there is an LED for the actual power on. The LED lights are to show levels, and if you're clipping.

Did you buy this second hand? Sounds like the wrong power adapter to me.

Nope, bought it new from zzounds. I'll double check the adapter to make sure it's the right one

Return it and get a new unit; perhaps the power adapter is loose and loses contact with the pins....or perhaps the tube is damaged.

I'll return it for a new one if it's not a problem with the adapter. I'll be able to check later today, after work

The LED would come on (fainter than normal though), and from what I remember it wouldn't work until I switched it back to the original adapter.
Also, I think this preamp works with or without the tube, so I wouldn't think a damaged tube would matter (but who knows?).

Do you think if I bought a new adapter it would work right?

Since you bought it new, you should just return it and get a replacement. I can't see how they would have given you the wrong adapter, and if it's defective, you shouldn't be the one paying for another one anyway.

Alright, thanks. I'll try some chords I have lying around that are the same voltages and see if anything works. If not I'm gonna send it back
