Do I have to make my own cables?

I have a "new" otari 5050 bqii open reel deck. It is unbalanced. I also have a "new" tascam m520 which is unbalanced. I have read that the otari stuff is pin 3 hot and the tascam (as well as most other gear) is pin 2 hot.

First of all, I don't even really understand what that means. Second, do I have to make my own cables to connect these pieces?

Any experience or advice shared will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know enough to give you an answer I'd be comfortable with. If I were in your shoes, I would call Tascam and Otari tech support and let them know what your situation is and what you're trying to do. They will probably give you the best answers.

Try Redco, on the internet. They make cables and sell cable parts.
