Cosmetic Customization of Vintage U87

Hi All,

I have a vintage u87 that I'm looking to have chromed or nickel-finished...or sandblasted for that matter...

And I'm looking to get a BLACK grill for the top.

I can't seem to find the black grill on eBay...am I better off contacting Neumann, or having it anodized black at a metal shop? (I know how sensitive mic grills can be at changing the character of the mic, and want to avoid that.)

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thank you.

Best,
nikkei

Find a custom motorcycle shop... they'll be able to get anything you need done for you. You can also check Google for "plating and finishing" shops in your local area if you want to cut out the "middleman". The only reason I suggested a custom motorcycle shop is because they usually know who does the best work in the area... but they will add a fee for their service.

Peace

You can buy the black grill directly from Sennheiser :

U87 Neumann Spare parts & accesories - Sennheiser Pro Spares - Purchase Online

It's quite expensive though
