Podium Mic suggestions

I have the need for a podium mic. Will most likely only be used for speaking and will be mounted on a mic stand (not directly on the podium). The speakers will be fairly close so feedback rejection will be a must. I had been looking into a couple that are in the price range we can afford:
Sennheiser MEG 14-40
Shure MX412/S

Which would you choose and why?
Reviews of these are sorely rare and not very helpful so any comments yall may have on either of these would be helpful.

Why not go with the SM58, or a Beta 58?

Mounting a podium mic that has a plug in gooseneck on a regular mic stand just doesn't work. Most gooseneck podium mics are made to plug into a base mount with an XLR connection.

For the $170ish price of the podium mic alone, you could buy a mic stand, a cable, a gooseneck for the stand, and any variety of $30 dynamic cardoids (GlS58/Prodipe TT1/etc) with $ probably left over. No need to buy an SM58for folks to get up and speak.

I cant cover up the speaker's face with a mic as large as a 58 and furthermore, I have place a mic like that so close to the speaker's face or crank the ever-loving crap out of the gain (more often to the point of feedback) to be able to hear the speaker clearly. It would need to be fairly small. Most of the gooseneck mics Ive seen are pretty unobtrusive which is why I was looking at them. Last time I had the need, I used a DBX measurement condenser on a mic stand for a podium mic and it worked out ok but it was a little obtrusive so I wanted something a little smaller, hence either of the 2 afore mentioned gooseneck mics.

Both Shure and Sennheiser make mic clips for these mics and I have done it like this before with a borrowed gooseneck podium mic with great results. Its just the gooseneck I borrowed at the time was a Shure that is no longer in production so I wanted to see if anyone had experience with either of these.

A shure mx 412 is pretty industry-standard. I think our AV company owns about 350 of them.

Some speakers I don't particularly care to see (or hear). Sometimes feedback can be good. But of course, I would never, never ever do that on purpose.

Shure MX418 with touch to talk/mute base. Sounds great. Great range of pickup for inexperienced speakers. Particularly people who lean to one side or constantly turn their heads toward screens, displays, or flip charts. As far as feedback rejection; a single channel graphic or some basic eq'ing will get the job done.

With the base, you never have to worry about wether the podium has a threaded mount or wether the stand will be obtrusive. It just sits there. Very low profile too.

Get the supercardiod version of the MX412. Does the best in rejecting the reflection off the podium.

412 vs 418

If you are going to attach to a stand I would recommend the 412 still. The 12/18 part of the name only refers to the length of the neck. I generally find 418's to be too long, if you get certain speakers too close to them they will chow on the mic all day, and you won't be able to get rid of the popping even with a larger filter. Certain podiums may work better with a 418 though if they are very deep or low or you have to bring the microphone around a laptop on the podium or something like that.

185 capsule is cardioid.
184 capsule is supercardioid.
183 capsule is omni.

Avoid 183. 185 would normally be my choice unless you have a floor wedge right behind the mic stand pointing straight up.
