ART Pro Channel - Use the Comp, But Not It's Pre ?

I've got a couple of mic pres, one being an ISA One, that I'd like to put a compressor in the signal chain. I've been looking at the Art Pro VLA II, but I presently have an ART Pro Channel which has a "Return" jack just ahead of the compressor section and a "Send" following it. I'm thinking along the lines of the possibility of jacking the output of the mic pre into the ART Pro Channels "Return" and pulling the signal out of the "Send". Was even thinking of the possibility of using the next stage of the ART Pro Channels EQ in a similar way.
I can't think of any downsides to doing this (have yet to try it) other than some coloration the ART may impart, but thought I'd ask here to see if it's a way to avoid purchasing another piece of gear that I may not actually need.

My alternative compressors are an Alesis 3630 and Behringer Composer Pro that I bought before I knew any better

It should work just fine patching in post preamp (comp in). The signal should then flow thru the eq as well, unless you decide to patch out pre eq. I'm saying this after taking a quick glance at a photo; as always, read the manual for the official word. Good luck!

The ART will be way better than the other two you listed. Ive seen one studio and read about others that have the ART channel only for its compressor, apparently its the best part of those units. go forth and patch it up !

Yeah....that'll work. It will be as an insert to your ISA one. Which it has. The EQ and the comp both have bypass switches on the Art. At least you can add a little sweetener at this point. The comp is optical so it'll be pretty quick.

The pro channel im thinking of has tube compressor capabilities. Did they take that out in the newer model ?

Yes both. Optical is much faster. Of course which setting you use will depend upon the source and what it needs. I only use tube-type compression on things liking slower transients.
