Much difference?

I'm probably going to buy one of these:
Focusrite octopre MKII or Presonus DigiMax D8

The Focusrite is about 100 bucks more and I want to know if its worth the extra 100 bucks or if I should take the personus instead. How much difference in quality is it? As a beginner am I going to notice any difference in sound quality between those.

I am assuming you already have an interface, as these are just preamps that are meant to connect to an interface

Actually no. I got the impression that I could use this as an interface and if I wanted to get even more preamps later on I would be able to connect another 8 channel preamp via ADAT.

But I am probably wrong then! What I am looking for is a good interface for recording drums. I am going to start with recording with 4 mics but whatever interface I get I want to be able to get at least 8 mics to record at the same time. Because I don't want to get another interface when I get better and want to have more than 4 mics.

I also want to have the option to connect external devices as equalizers and compressors etc when I get better at this stuff. Any suggestions what kind of interface I should go for instead?

Thanks!

Musiciansfriend has Profire 2626 for 400 new, and also the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 for 500.

I use the Profire and I love it. I'd recommend the Focusrite though because the Profire has an annoying DSP control panel.
Both have 8 preamps and are expandable. I have 24 inputs to Pro Tools with ADAT

I have a macbook air with only 2 usb ports. Is it possible to buy some kind of adapter to get firewire or do I have to get an usb 2.0 audio interface instead?

Thanks for the suggestions!
