Apex 165 on brass?

I know a lot of people use these on drums, but I got a great deal on 3 Apex 165 clip on small diaphragm condensers. I am happy with my current drum micing options, but the specs say these are good on horns. Does anyone have any experience micing brass and woodwinds with these? What were your impressions? I have a big band coming to record and thought these might be the right choice. Thanks!

Haven't used those specific mics, but have tried clip on small diaphragm condensers on brass; wasn't very happy with the results (sax, trombone). Much better results with dynamics at least a foot away, and possibly a ribbon/condenser further away for some ambience. Good luck!
