Thread Starter | Studio monitors max 700$ (pair)
Hey guys i'm puting together a home studio so I'm in need of a quality pair of monitors.
I have some monitors considered so I want your opinion on them (or your suggestion on a different pair at maximum 700$)
Here is what I've been looking at:
M Audio BX8 D2 M-Audio BX8 D2 - Thomann Greek Cyberstore
KRK RP8 RoKit G2 KRK RP8 RoKit G2 - Thomann Greek Cyberstore
Mackie MR8 Mk2 Mackie MR8 Mk2 - Thomann Greek Cyberstore
I also want to know if the difference between the monitors mentioned above and the Focal CMS 50 is huge, cause the focals may be out of my league but it would be worth considering them.

Monitors and the sound of the room they're in are your most important tool. I'd rather mix mxl mics on good monitors than neumanns on maudio monitors. Save up. Get the Neumann kh120s.

I really share your opinion on that matter, but I'm really tight right now and it's very difficult for me to save that much money. What's your opinion on the other two pairs, or the focals?

I personally have the R8's and I have to say that I like them a lot. Nice overall sound and some nice precise bass. But you'd need a good room to appreciate them as much as you could!
Some say they're a good first monitors pair but you will feel the need to change them quickly, apparently..

I'm planning to treat the room too, so this is not a problem. But I wouldn't like it if I had to upgrade my monitors too soon. If you can suggest a pair that you feel confident mixing with, even if it is a bit out of my budget, feel free to do so

I have been mixing for a few years now on the Maudio first gen bx8as. These things are awesome for a first pair. I highly recommend them. Don't stress about the upgrade , a budget is a budget, and Maudio makes great gear.

The JBL look nice. But I can't find them in shops. Are they discontinued?

HS80Ms are quite extremely popular in that price range..have you thought about those? Much different to work on compared to the Rokits.

Yes I thought about them, but I had already made the post! I saw in comments that the HS are extremely flat (something that's very good). The RoKit's are said to be very bassy (commonly used for electronic music). I don't exclussively produce electronic music, I mainly do rock and metal. So here's the dilemma: Will the flat monitors be fatiguing, or will the bassy be misleading? What do you suggest?

HS50's and a pair of behritones...
And I see alot of secondhand Dynaudio speakers. That with a decent amp and you'll have some great mains...
Now within that 700 euro budget you'll have three pairs...

I can't find an original price on them, but I bet they originally cost $2000 after considering inflation.

So in the end what do you suggest? The room will be treated acousticly so that's not a concern, and the styles of music I mix are generally rock based. What pair do you suggest around 700$???

If you are considering the HS80Ms, then also consider the MSP7s. They're in your budget range. I have a pair and though I haven't had them too long, I really enjoy them.

Equator D5s destroy everything mentioned here. Surely buy them instead!

One dB at a certain frequency won't make them overtly harsh. The actual tweeter design and materials IMO is what makes them fatiguing or less fatiguing. It's not the flat frequency response that makes the Yamahas fatiguing. Nor are the Yams flat, they have some spikes in the high frequencies.
They are a good choice on a budget, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with just them. The Yams have some very low bottom too, they'll go lower and louder than the Rokits.
I haven't heard too many of the speakers here so I can't comment on the other options.

Not a fan of much from M-audio, for the money I thought Event-TR8 were always good.

I went through a similar process a few weeks ago and after listening to both my budget and ears I came out with the Bx8's. (I had been previously using a pair of borrowed 5" KRK Rokits). I had no interest in buying M-Audio beforehand; in fact I was trying to avoid it. I have no regrets, although I'm sure that I'll upgrade again someday. But I can get work done just fine with these and I'll be upgrading many other things before I worry about speakers again. Get ones that make familiar material sound the way you know it should, then get to know the speakers and your room and you will have a setup that you can trust.

Hi guys!
I was just about to start a thread like this, but I thought I might as well ask here instead
My budget is a bit better, which actually means I have no problem saving up to a pair of Neumann K120 if that is the case. My basic question is, are those really that much better than the Adam A7X, or even the Rockits and Yamaha HS80? I actually do alot more playing through my current speakers than mixing (I'm a guitar player who uses an Axe-FX II), so the Neumann might be a bit of an overkill for my uses.
All help is welcome |

Adam A7's (not A7X) if you're patient and look around in your price point. I would wait and NOT get any of the three you initially mentioned imo as you'll inevitably want to upgrade again. I rock NS10's and love em but, they're not for everyone.

you should be able to go with Yamaha HS80M's in that price range
regardless of pricepoint in a well treated room they will always be good monitors, not something I'd upgrade personally of course YMMV
