Sum Limiter

Hi!

I'm searching for a sum Limiter as overload protection [crashing synths etc.] for the master out of my mixing console - would a dbx166 / 266 do that job without quality loss [it will not limit in normal use]? Or better a SPL dynamaxx? or are there other solutions for this problem?
