Just another monitors thread.

Hello all,

I'm looking to invest in my first pair of monitors for mixing at home. It'll be in my bedroom, so the room layout design won't be perfect as it's not a dedicated space and will contain the usual bedroom bits and pieces.

Looking to spend not much more than £300. I'm by no means very experienced at mixing, but it's something that I'd like to learn/become better at. Realistically I'm looking at 5 inch monitors mainly due to the room size (see below). I know that 5 inch woofers won't give me a huge low end, but I'll just have to compensate by listening on other systems and cross referencing other material etc.

The approximate room dimensions (if it helps) are (in Metres)
- L - 3.28
- W - 2.89
- H - 2.27

Obviously everybody has different opinions, but some that I've narrowed it down to are:

Mackie MR5 Mk 2
Prodipe Pro Ribbon 5
Adam A3X

Any thoughts/experiences with those monitors would be great, as would any other suggestions that would fit what I'm looking for.

Thanks.

Neil.

Equator D5 are well worth the £349 UK asking price.

I prefer them over my Focal CMS40 which is already (IMO) a better monitor than those on your list.

Thanks for the heads up, just had a quick look and there's not a lot of bad words to be said about them. Quick (and probably stupid) question though, what does the DSP do?

+1 to Equator D5's. Happy owner/user here. Wouldn't mind checking out the Mackies though, or HS50m's for that matter
