AKG C451/460 sound-a-like?

Is there such a thing? Really impressed by how C460 fared on OH here:Prairie Sun Drum Overhead Mic Shootout | recording hacks Just compare to the KM85.

Hmm, Avantone CK-1 Small-Capsule FET Pencil Microphone

Also, I wonder about the AT ATM450, based on the name...

After taking a closer look at Avantone CK-1 it seems it's another chinese KM84, there's no way it will sound like a C451 or C460 cardioid.

It's hard to tell sometimes.

As to the ATM450: It's a great mic for overheads, but it's not "clean and neutral". The modded 460 in your link was described that way.

To me the Oktava MK-012s have similar highs to the old 451s, but they have reacher low end.

460 is a great mic at a better price.

I would't argue with that. Two things that hold me back even though I'm stoked: I'm unsure how a C460 pair sounds in a minimal drum setup with only a kick and a snare mic. Second I'm on a tight budget. Is there anything that would get me half way there coming from a KM84-style pair? The specific characteristic that appealed to me was how the off-axis upper-mids seemed well rejected leaving a nice shine to the highs.

To me the Oktava MK-012 sounds nothing like an old C451. The AKG is a brighter, more detailed mic, while the OKtava is a darker and slightly less detailed mic. On some sources I prefer the Oktava, but more often I prefer the sound of a C451EB (or C452EB). Both are handy mics to have though.

I thought so too based on the the handful of comparison clips right here on GS.
Anyway I found my cheap C451/460 substitute: Superlux S241. Surprised no one chimed about that one, I guess you all fail at low end theory

My Recordings/Credits

the 460 is my top of the snare mic of choice
it sounds more like the drum than any other I've used.
