Recording separate drum tracks using Motu 896HD Digital Audio Interface

Hi guys, I've just received a Motu 896HD digital audio interface from a friend and I was wondering if Anyone has been able to record drums with this. I would like to record each drum in separate tracks. I'll be using either cubase or ableton live and will be using anywhere from 4 to 7 mics at a time depending on what my drummers setup is. The motu has 8 xlr inputs so there's plenty of space. I will also be connecting the motu to a PC with windows 7 x64 via firewire. Would this setup suffice for just drums? Or will I need to buy more equipment to make this happen? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

Some mics and cables might help...

As far as the Motu goes, it'll be fine.

Cool, Would it automatically record in separate tracks? Or would I need to mess with some settings to do so? Thanks for responding man

Just need to set each channel of the Motu to a separate channel in whatever software you're using, which you would do in the software, not on the hardware.

Good unit, fine on everything, including drums.
Good to know. What software do you use? No issues with recording separate tracks with drums?

That's what it's made to do. I do 16 at a time. As long as your puter is fairly new and not a 486 with 512k of ram.
