THE BEST AUDIO INTERFACE FOR..

hey guys, i did some researching on this site about the Focusrite Saffire (the interface i was leaning on) and i didn't read any positive reviews at all... which is different from other forums i goto. I was curious on what audio interface would you guys recommend me.. anything under $600 please.

i personally was going to order the Saffire, but maybe you guys can convince me on something else. i was also thinking of the firebox.. but i'm certainly SURE that there has to be something better than that in the 300-600 range of interfaces.

from all the talks about the RME Fireface 400, i'm really wanting to get it, but i hear no signs of release date and price; so i guess i'ma have to pass up on it. i'm too impatient when it comes to shopping, if i don't purchase any audio equipment soon i might just shell out all my money towards clothing and food or some crap like that. help guys~!!

edit: my mic is a rode NT1000 if that matters at all.

Go with a used or ebay fireface 800. Better specs than the ff400 and about the same cash($1100-1200). Great, stable drivers, killer sounding conversion(easily the best for the money - here's the difference in the ff800 and the ff400) and 4 really good, not great pres. Really, really good though.

If you can find a Used Fireface for under $600 then by all means go for that. But that is unrealistic. The eBay going rate is $1200. On a budget of $600 and a firewire preference, I would say go with the PreSonus FIREPOD.

Firepod

My good friend, and amazing musician uses one for his personal studio and loves it. It's right in your budget too. Your best bet though would be to wait a month and raise an extra $200 for the Presonus Firestudio to come out. Check this beast out:

That is indeed sexy, but I'm mainly only recording vocals. I personally don't think all those channels would be necessary for me

Then get an MBox 2 and wait for Black Lion Audio to release thier mod for it as stated by this e-mail I sent:

"Hello Giovanni--
We want to design something for the Mbox, but haven't had time to do so yet. Keep checking back with us, though--we should have something available soon.

Matt
Black Lion Audio"

The Mbox 2 is USB, but it sounds decent, you can use ProTools, and it will be perfect for what you are using it for. At $450, it is right in your budget plus you can save some money for when Matt and his team at Black Lion release a mod.

^ yes, the MBox 2 was also on my mind but i hear alotta complaints that it crashes alot. i might get it though, i don't know. and can u please take a look at this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ler?sku=702651 and let me know what you think? this guy is giving me great reviews on it.. and i might just purchase it since it offers mic pres and also a midi controller which can help and save me space from buying another item (since i'm planning on learning how to make beats anyway)

thanks for your time

No, Novation doesn't make good audio interfaces. Thier synths are amazing as are thier MIDI controllers. Go with the MBox 2 (which has a MIDI interface built in) and a Novation Remote series controller. If you need help getting into electronic music production, hit me up. As far as the MBox 2 and PT7 being unstable, whoever said that must not take care of thier computer. I put mine through some serious work and have never had a problem.
