Well, the S-950 is so old that the only way you can communicate with it on a computer is through SCSI transfer with something like Wavelab, Soundforge, or Cool Edit Pro. Even then, I'm not sure if the 950 had the option for a SCSI port. The S-950 has a really unique sound though. The crappy timestretching algorithm is perfect for grimey drum sounds. |

As long as you have a midi-out port on your computer, there should be no problem sequencing it with any software sequencer. Future Music and Sound on Sound always seemed to feature dance music producers who still sequenced thier 900's, 950's, and S1000's with cubase on old Atari computers.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood you. Of course you can sequence it with midi. Just about everything made after '85 (whenever the SCI prophet 600 and Roland Juno-106 debuted) has a midi port on it. |

s 950's were great. good for drums as they are so basic and the timeing was good. Midi is good and the sound is punchy. I kind of miss the simple life! one floppy for a songs kit! Little memory makes for clear choices. yeahh...nothing wrong with these for beats. By the time of the s950 ..Akai were the king of samplers... how time flies! |

Yeah, I still have a three ring binder with about 150 protective sleeves, holding 3.5" floppy disks filled with drum samples I made years ago.
