Tascam DP24: Apply compressor to a track after its been recorded?

Hi there.

So I recently replaced my Zoom R16 with a Tascam DP24. It's really spectacular, but there's one thing I can't figure out:

Is it possible to put a compressor on a track AFTER its been recorded? I realize you can apply a compressor to in an incoming signal, but I can't seem to figure out how to use a compressor as insert effect.

I just started recording my new drum & organ duo (me on organ) and I want to put compression on the synth bass and kick drum.

Anyone have any experience with the DP24? Is this even possible?

Thanks!

The manual should explain this, if it is possible.

That unit has effects outs. Start there.

Well, of course I checked the manual.

It does not say anything about applying compression, in the same way you would apply reverb or chorus.

However, I see what you're getting at: you're suggesting sending the effects out to an input with live compression on it. That's a good idea. (But it wasn't in the manual. )

Thanks for the tip!

I just want to wrap this thread up for posterity, in the event another DP24 user finds this on a search....

I emailed Tascam directly, and asked them. Tascam support said frankly, it is NOT possible to apply a compressor after a track has been recorded.

So the only workaround in the above, i.e., running an effects out, and running it back into an Input A-H, and then assigning that to some unused track. I actually haven't tried this yet because my DP24 is at my rehearsal space, so I'll give it a go the next time I'm there.

I just got a DP24 last week and was wondering the same thing. Did you ever get it to work?

Well, sort of.

I ended just getting a Joemeek external compressor, and running an effects out line to it.

But I realized that you could run and effects out, and then run it back in to the DP24 with the compression on, and then just record that track. A bit of a pain, I know, but it works. However, I decided if I'm going to go through all that, I'm just going to use an external unit.
